All I can say is ….
Bien Caribbean Latino, formerly Paseo, is a gem just waiting to be discovered by you. On the corner of Eaton and Grinnell Streets, it resembles a cottage if you don’t look closely. Pink and Green and inviting on the outside …. a friendly, smiling face waiting at the counter … just for you … on the inside. I’ve been here a few times and I’ve never been disappointed.
Parking is the first – and only – issue. They have a very small parking area on the Grinnell side of the building. Enough for 2 or 3 cars. Otherwise you have to find street parking. Once that ordeal is taken care of though, you are about to embark on a culinary delight. My first visit sent me there to experience the much acclaimed (by my friends) Fire Roasted Corn. After we ordered, we took our beverages and sat outside at one of the small tables. After a short wait, our corn was hand delivered to us. The corn was wrapped in aluminum foil. And it was hot! I unwrapped it carefully .. and good thing I did. This is no ordinary corn on the cob! It’s grilled over an open flame and coated with aioli, Parmesan cheese, salt, paprika and fresh lime juice. When you open the foil, this is what it looks like ….
And it’s soooooo good! Melts in your mouth. I really wanted to take my time and savor it …. BUT …. it was gone in minutes. I hate to admit it … my friends were right.
So, because I practically inhaled it the first time, we went back again a week later. This time, in addition to the corn, we ordered the Paseo Press. The sandwiches are so huge, we ordered one and split it. Once again, we sat outside and waited. It seemed like only minutes passed (and I know it was only minutes because we didn’t come anywhere near finishing the beverages) and again our order was hand delivered.
The Fire Roasted Corn was just as good as I remembered. Succulent – Tasty – Delicious! The Paseo Press was also a pleasant surprise. It consists of morsels of roasted pork nestled atop banana peppers draped with sheer slices of smoked ham, swiss cheese, caramelized onions all melted together between a hot press.
I admit I couldn’t even finish my half of the sandwich. But I finished ALL of my corn!!!! I saved the rest of the Paseo Press for a snack later in the day. Mmmmm!!!! So good!
